๐Ÿ—’๏ธ Notes from the Studio - November 6, 2026 - ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿซ

Hey there friends!

Holy moly. I canโ€™t believe we are just a few weeks away from Thanksgiving.

I hope everyone had a fun Halloween. We had a prediction of a 40% chance of rain here and the TV weatherman assured viewers that it would just be a drizzle at worst.

Whelp, it ended up raining all day - with the heaviest while the little ones were out in their costumes. ๐Ÿ˜ณ Despite that, I think they all had fun. Getting free candy can overcome so many obstacles.

Remember getting individual school photos taken around this time of year? If you are able to get your hands on yours, they would make a great little memory book. Read more about this below ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป

Happy almost weekend,

BEHIND THE SCENES THIS WEEKโ€‹

School photos and memories of classmates and teachers

School pictures were so much fun on the day your class walked to the cafeteria where the photographer had set up. You got out of the classroom for a little while! No one even cared if their hair was still brushed or combed nicely like it had been when they arrived at school. You had probably already spent 30 minutes out on the playground for Peteโ€™s sake.

But, then part 2 of the school pictures experience rolled around a few weeks later. Thatโ€™s when your teacher starts passing out those little packages. You know the ones. There was a bigger photo behind a clear, crackly cellophane panel. Then inside were the smaller ones with sizes for grandparents and those that could be cut apart to swap with friends.

But the reality of a school photo hit a little harder on that day. The photo revealed that your hair was standing up or your eyes were closed. Your clothes might have been messed up from your time on the monkey bars at recess. What was your mom going to say after taking the time to make you presentable before you went to school?

Now that Iโ€™m a mom and a grandmother, I know the real truth. She didnโ€™t care! Your parents might have giggled and teased you, but they were just happy to have new photos to send to Grandma.

And nowโ€ฆ. those little photos are timeless. I hope you have your own to scan and put into a digital/print booklet with some stories about each grade. I would have treasured something like that from my parents.

I felt like I needed to share at least one of my elementary photos. Enjoy my 4th grade class photo ๐Ÿ˜€

Iโ€™m not ready to share it with you yet, but Iโ€™m working hard on making a simple template for a digital memory book to share with you very soon. I am creating it in a way that you will be able to have the digital copy for safekeeping while also being able to get a copy or two printed inexpensively. Stay tuned!

If you missed these last week, here are my November Journal prompts. Since we are entering the โ€œcozyโ€ season, I thought you might be writing a bit more. You can download it here.--> November 2026 Journal Guide.pdfโ€‹

Take a photo. Write a little bit. Create a legacy story for your family.

Hey there friends! Happy Halloween Eve. ๐Ÿ’€ Iโ€™ve been thinking about trick or treating all week because weโ€™re trying to coordinate when I get to see my 2 little grandboys in their costumes. If you have been with us here since late 2024, then you know that Iโ€™ve confessed to yaโ€™ll before that when my own children were little that we didnโ€™t participate in trick or treating. In fact, you can read about that in this old issue. It's packed with all sorts of Halloween fun, so if you have time take a...

Hey there friends! Before Family History Month closes out with a bang on Halloween ๐ŸŽƒ, I would like to give you one more family story thread to pull. Remember back in the olden days when you had to look up someoneโ€™s phone number in a paperback directory? ๐Ÿ˜‚ And unbelievably sometimes even memorized it? Well, in some communities there was one more publicly available source of information about local residents. That source was called a City Directory. I donโ€™t think I have ever seen a physical...

Hey there friends! Happy Friday and happy Family History Month. I hope your week has been a pleasant one and you have been able to spend time doing something you enjoy. In a world where it seems like every day and month on the calendar we are celebrating something ๐Ÿ˜‚ - it seems the month of October is when we celebrate Family History Month. Iโ€™m happy about this because it means that there is more of a focus on the resources we need to gather the history and stories of our own families. Today...
